Magerit

founded in 1929

Our establishment was founded in 1929
by Mr. Salustiano Nogueira after his return from Cuba.

The chronicles of old Madrid tell us that the place where it is currently located was once an old liquor warehouse known as Cachero.

It was later known as Bar Antillas, before being renamed Magerit in 1964.

Located in the heart of Plaza Mayor in Madrid, our restaurant is a historic reference for Madrid and Spanish gastronomy. For almost a century, we have preserved a family tradition that began when we became the first establishment in the square to open a terrace, creating a unique space to enjoy traditional Spanish cuisine in one of the city’s most iconic locations.

Four generations later, we continue to offer a dining experience based on respect for classic recipes, quality ingredients, and the warm hospitality that defines Madrid. Our concept combines the essence of traditional Madrid cuisine with friendly service, designed for those looking for breakfast in Plaza Mayor, a typical Spanish lunch, or a special dinner in the historic center.

Over the years, we have become a meeting point for locals, visitors, and food lovers seeking authentic flavors in an incomparable historic setting. Each dish reflects our history, our roots, and our commitment to keeping Spanish culinary tradition alive.
